Holidays

Friday, January 5th, 2007

Well the holidays seem to have interrupted the viewing of any new movies. As a result, our recently consistent reviews have been delayed until we get to watch a DVD this coming weekend. But I decided to give you an update anyway.

So, today I will talk about two gifts I received for Christmas…yes I said Christmas. I didn’t say holiday season or some other PC type of thing. The way I see it, if it is fine to mention all the other holidays during this season by name we should be able to mention the big daddy of them all. If for some reason you are offended by this (I can’t name anyone that is but the general media seems to think someone is) you shouldn’t get to take the day off like everyone else.

Sorry about that. Something came over me. Lets get back to the reviews.

The first gift almost relates to the main purpose of this site. It is season one of the Monkees on DVD. It comes in a neat little box which is shaped like an old portable record player. Of course it doesn’t fit on the shelf with your other DVD’s particularly well but that is a minor thing. So far, we have only watched the first episode and it was exactly what I expected. Campy, silly, almost nonsensical and we totally loved it. If you are a fan of the Monkees TV show you will love this collection. Now we just have to get season two! I did find one thing that didn’t work very well. You have to option of setting the sound to 5.1 surround. Obviously the show was not originally done in that format as stereo was still new back then and no shows were done even in that. It is possible that your system will function differently than mine did but it was very poor on mine. When I set things back to 2.0 everything sounded great.

The second gift was something I will use every day. I got a Tempurpedic pillow. On the surface that may not sound very cool but believe me, it is. I can never seem to find a comfortable pillow. I have tried feathers, foam and other synthetics. None have been quite what I wanted to truly be comfortable. Well, this one is it. They have a few different types and the one in question is called the Comfort pillow. It is of traditional design and fits in a normal pillow case. I also have one of the contoured ones and while it is really nice as well it is a bit too hard for my head to be comfortable. This is also something I would recommend to folks.

Well, thanks for stopping and we will try to get some new movie reviews out here soon.
