The Prestige

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

The Prestige is about magicians. I don’t really like magicians, with the possible exception of Penn & Teller, so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch this one. Turns out you can take a silly profession and make a fairly interesting movie.

In this film we have two main characters, Robert and Alfred. They start out together but end up not getting along at all due to certain circumstances best left for the movie to tell. They spend the rest of the movie attempting to outdo each other and the bad blood only gets worse as things go along. Do not look for anything beyond suspense and drama when watching this one. It is very serious and should keep you on the edge of your seat until very close to the end. Be warned though that the beginning may not work for some of you. I watched this in a group of four people and it seems that I was the only one who didn’t have trouble following along during the early parts of the movie. So, do yourself a favor and be patient with the first 15 to twenty minutes as you will be rewarded later on.

In fact, I would say that this was one of the better endings to a film that I have seen in a long while. I will be giving this one .
